What is The Wagon Wheel? We are your local meat shop, steak house, and caterer. We are Indiana locals Jack Craig, Jim Wells and an amazing team of people that have been bringing the best custom meats to Bloomington since late 2015. We have the largest variety of made in-house products you will find in Southern Indiana. Along with our house made deli side dishes, salads and lunch meats, we make marinades for 8 different flavors of chicken breasts, 6 different flavors of tri-tip and have unique recipes for over 35 varieties of brats and sausages! Many of those recipes have been in the Butler family for over 40 years!


Our roots date back to the early 1980’s when the Butler family bought a meat market in a small Northern California town and through humble beginnings, turned it into what is now Wagon Wheel Market. Our local owners, Jack Craig and Jim Wells, became friends with Patrick Butler and decided Bloomington, Indiana was missing an old-fashioned butcher shop where every recipe was made from scratch and people could obtain high quality meat products coupled with personalized customer service.


What makes Wagon Wheel Custom Meats different from the other meat shops in town? Beyond being locally owned and operated, we source only the highest quality meats to produce the best overall custom meat products for you! Our beef is USDA Choice Certified Premium, a program that utilizes only the top 15% of beef in the country. This includes our famous tri-tip! If you aren’t from California, you’re probably asking yourself, “what in the world is tri-tip?”. Tri-tip is a triangular cut of beef from the bottom part of the sirloin, originating as a cut of beef in the Santa Maria region of California. We believe our tri-tip is the very best you will ever have! If you’ve never tried it, please ask us for a sample today! We are a local, state and federally inspected meat processing facility and you can have peace of mind knowing you are getting the highest quality products available. Here at Wagon Wheel, we make everything from scratch – from our award-winning smoked bacon and marinated chicken breasts to our house made deli lunch meats and deli sides. Our facility houses a state-of-the-art smokehouse that is capable of smoking 250 pounds of bacon or over 1,200 brats at one time!
